Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI do not want to appear daft but how does one write on the blog site? I wanted to ask how everyone was doing with the rain and if their horses were out in pastures in the mud was it best to start rinsing off the first day for your equine kids comfort or let them walk around looking like gray lumpy ghosts for a time. The first night when someone up there dumped water out of a boot my gelding had rolled in the arena while it was mud soup and when I got there it looked like someone had drenched him in runny chocolate pudding. His rationale for this just dummifies me since he looks so darn miserable. I came from up north in the sandhills and this never happened to me. His mane looks like he is a Jamaican jammer with dreads when he dries a bit.
I hate locking him in his stall since it makes him crazy. That is why I thought I could trailer him somewhere and wear him out in a covered arena.
Does anyone know of where, for a fee, someone can ride in a covered arena. My Arab boy was deemed sound to ride just before the rain started and it is driving me batty not being able to continue his work.
Well that is all I wanted to know so be careful not to drown. Candice
Hi Candice,
This is a great question. Thanks for asking. We are always on the lookout for folks who might want to contribute content to the blog.
The first and easiest way is to just write in comments – like you just did. The comments are moderated so there is a delay before they go live.
The second way is to send articles or stories you want posted on the blog to me. You can send contact me via chris at horsecove.com or call me at 972-429-1222 and we can discuss article ideas. (I think your idea about horses and the rain would be a good starter article.)
The third way is to become a dedicated writer for the blog and to get your own login. You get this after you’ve worked with the blog a bit and know the mechanics of using the blog software.
We would love for you to write for the blog. Contact me and we’ll take it in steps.
Meanwhile – I’d love to hear from others on how they deal with their horses and the rain.
And Candice, once the rain stops we can meet over at Brockdale for our ride. 🙂

Well everyone, I wrote recently about the mud and horses during this latest sky burst but I discovered something else. Other people in other walks of life use bad “not meant for man nor beast” weather to do their dirty work. I went to my horse barn this morning and my stock trailer was missing. The tracks and witness testimonial put it’s theft about Thursday night in the rain. It makes me wonder why I did not notice it missing Friday morning. I now realize it was because in stormy or wet weather we head right for the barn to see how we can make our horsey kids comfortable and don’t notice our outlying surroundings. I guess I will pay for that indescretion ‘big’ time.
I am still in shock and related that by saying fairly goofy things to the policeman during questioning because all I could think about was “how will I get my horses to the lake.”
My immediate question is, does anyone have a trailer sitting about that they would like to lease for the winter. Just a 2 horse is fine so when my son’s horse is ridden we can take her too. My budget told me this morning that I couldn’t have a new trailer till 2010. I don’t think I can walk to the trails and I abhore asking people to come pick me up so all I could think of was leasing or not going. I hope someone sees this blog and takes pity on this trailerless woman and her horse.

Ohhh Candice, I am so sorry to hear about your trailer. That is terrible….and scary!
What town do you live in? I know it isn\’t ideal, but until you can either locate your trailer or replace it (ugh, hope it isn\’t this route), you may need to catch rides with nearby folks. With gas prices the way they are there may be a number of people looking for people to split gas costs with.
Again, I am so sorry to hear about your trailer. Its quite shocking what some people will do. Hopefully the police will be able to find the trailer and get it back to you soon.
Chris
